“I am a parent of a now third grader at the school whom has been a part of the school since kindergarten, when they could take naps! My child does well at the school making only one 'B' since enrolled. I do wonder however, if her intellect is being challenged. It is just as important to challenge the minds of 'A' students as it is for others. Foreign languages might help, as well as science and math clubs and challenges. Education AND recreation need to be reevaluated for this school year. Oh yeah, the teachers have been fairly good even with little teaching experience. The proof is the retention!”

“My child is currently a first-grader at this school. Although the teachers and paraprofessionals have been wonderful, the school policies are ill-equipped to deal with younger children. Their no tolerance policy is ridiculous. What kind of world are we in when kindergartners and first graders are being written up & suspended for minor infractions? These policies need to be revamped to be age appropriate and the punishment should fit the crime. Detention and suspension are not effective tools when dealing with young children. While I know that a discipline policy must exist, this 'one size fits all' mindset is going to cause parents (like myself) to remove their children from this school. The kindergartners are not allowed to take naps. These 4 & 5-year-olds are expected to attend school from 8 to 3:15 without benefit of rest? Obviously money, not the childrens' welfare is the main focus of NHA.”

“North Dayton has good teachers, however the principal's expectations are way too high, especially for kindergarteners. In order for a child to receive honor roll, regardless of how great the child's grades are, the child must have good moral focus points along with the grades, and that has nothing to do with the child's academic performance,especially if an award for citizenship is already being given out. Perhaps the principal should have thought her plan out more effectively before turning this school to the general public.”

“I am a current parent of the newest program 'the readiness program.' What brought me to the school was the no tolerence but I did not expect that for the readiness program. Discipline is the driving force at the school, but I don't think they were ready for the can of worms they were opening for this type of classroom. Room too small for 18 (4-5 yr old), very little patience, not enough activities to keep the young mind at bay . All around they needed to do a little more research before opening to the general public.”

“I currently have a child enrolled in North Dayton School of Discovery. The only real issue that I have is there are no sports programs, band etc. Although, they are supposed to be getting some things together for the 04-05 school year. They really try to stay on top of the children that have discipline problems.”
